Gold standard for college

West Nottinghamshire College is celebrating after retaining a prestigious employer accolade.

The college has again been awarded the highly sought-after Investors in People (IiP) Gold standard which it first achieved in 2010.

It has held the IiP standard since 1996 and applied for a higher-level accreditation at its re-assessment in 2010.  In 2009 IiP introduced bronze, silver and gold recognition for high achievers that want to work beyond standard accreditation.

Almost 100 staff were interviewed by an assessor over a four week period throughout February and asked for their views on how the college supports them in the workplace.  A range of college plans, strategies and policy documents were also inspected.

Areas of strength highlighted by assessors were:

  • The college’s development programmes to embed leadership at every level
  • Implementation of equality and diversity
  • Positive changes made to the induction process for delivery staff
  • The use of in-house expertise in the delivery of development programmes
  • Staff’s commitment to offer customers first class service through college values
  • Involvement of key partners to shape the business strategy
  • Commitment to local community through a range of initiatives
  • The intern and apprenticeship programmes

Principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE said: “Maintaining our Investors in People Gold standard is an excellent achievement for the college.  We take great pride in providing staff with the right training and development opportunities so that they can reach their full potential.

“Not only are our staff improving their own job roles and career potential, they’re also applying these excellent skills and standards towards improving the service for our students and our customers.”

As a result of the reaccreditation, which is applied for every three years, the college has been shortlisted to showcase its work within the arena of people development at a national conference in March.
