Would-be apprentices to enter Dragon’s Den

Would-be apprentices in Newark have the chance to secure jobs through a Dragon’s Den-style recruitment event.

Young people applying for positions with local and national employers are to be interviewed by a panel from each company – giving them a chance to showcase their talents and demonstrate why they’re the right person for the job.

The event – inspired by the hit BBC television series – takes place on Monday 1 October from 6pm to 10.30pm at The Moorings Restaurant and Bar, Castlegate.

It is being staged by Newark and Sherwood Employer Engagement Group, Newark Business Club and Vision Apprentices – the recruitment arm of West Nottinghamshire College.

Employers attending include Capital One, ForLinux, Boots, Balfour Beatty and Timico Ltd.

Each interview will be televised in a separate room for other employers to gain an insight into the district’s local talent.

Applicants who secure jobs will receive a year’s free gym membership sponsored by Nottinghamshire County Council and a free make-over by Newark-based Inizio Hair and Beauty.

Vision Apprentices is handling the recruitment and shortlisting on behalf of the businesses and helping each applicant prepare for interview. It will also support unsuccessful candidates in applying for alternative positions.

Director of Vision Apprentices Sandra Cowley said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Newark to secure an apprenticeship with companies that are committed to investing in new talent.

“It’s an imaginative way of matching up employers with local job-seekers and the aim is to get as many candidates into jobs before the night is out.”
