Miles of fun for Sport Relief

The littlest of legs at Vision West Notts toddled a mile for charity on Friday (23 March).

Dressed in fancy dress costumes, children aged between two and four years of age from the college’s Butterflies Day Nursery ran and walked five times around the Derby Road campus football pitch to raise money for Sport Relief 2012.

The event was organised and supervised by activity leadership students and ended an action-packed week of sports and games.

Every day last week the group of 23 students encouraged fellow learners to take part in other sport-related activities including a pool challenge to pot the black ball in the quickest time, five-a-side football, a cross-bar challenge and a tug-of-war.

Students who took part in the games were asked to pay a small donation towards Sport Relief.

The activity leadership students designed the week’s games as part of their NVQ course to demonstrate their organisational and leadership skills.

Student Carl Hartley (17), from Mansfield Woodhouse, said: “It was great getting students involved in both getting fit and having fun and we’ve really improved our organisational skills as well as communication skills.

“It was interesting tailoring an activity for such a young audience at the day nursery and we were thrilled they had such fun and got involved in raising money for Sport Relief.”
