Students and employers to take a bow at awards ceremony

Students from Vision West Notts’ health, care and education school of learning will be picking up achievement awards at a glittering ceremony this week.

Up to 40 students will take to the stage in the Vision Centre at the college’s Derby Road campus on Wednesday evening (19 October) to collect awards from entry level all the way through to Level 4 from their last academic year with the college. Employers who provide employment and placements for students will also be collecting awards of their own.

Students and employers have been nominated for awards in several categories which will be handed out by deputy principal Patricia Harman.  The categories are: outstanding achiever, returning adult or young carer within the workplace, learner who has overcome challenges to learning and professional development, ideal role model, excellent placement conduct, most supportive employer of training and development and employer who supports college initiatives.

The team will also be presenting a special trophy in the shape of the Alison Dawes award - given in honour of healthcare lecturer Alison Dawes who passed away in 2005.

Associate director for learning in health, care and education, Poyee Chan, said: “Our celebration event will be an opportunity to say well done and thank you to our students as well as employers from the healthcare industry for their progress and achievements over the last academic year.

“Many of our students go on to have successful careers in the health and in childcare sector as well as working for private care organisations. Higher education is also a popular option for many our learners. We’re looking forward to the celebrations with our students and employers.”
