Culture and creativity explored in Barcelona

Creative arts students from West Nottinghamshire College have been soaking up the culture and creative moods in Barcelona to shape their projects and portfolios in the classroom.

  • Savinnah Quelcuti experimenting with virtual reality at FX Animation School
  • Students enjoyed their time at FX Animation School

The five-day visit centred around a visit to FX Amination, Barcelona 3D and Film School, which is one of Europe’s top schools specialising in the different areas of 3D and compositing. It offers postgraduate industry skills for the film, animation and games industries.

Staff and students at the school made a film about the students’ visit and they enjoyed working with the Spanish educators and students who are working in the same field as themselves. This can be viewed here https://vimeo.com/207099279

While in Barcelona the students, who are studying the HND Interactive Media, BA Creative Digital Media and HND Music, also took in the sights of a range of galleries and music venues to get a taste of the vibrant design and music scene.

Their visit also helped to inform their contextual studies and visual communications assignments back at college in Mansfield.

They visited the stunning Sagrada Familia church designed by Antoni Gaudi that took over 100 years to build. This architectural design helped to inspire the students’ understanding of 3D design.

Multimedia tutor Aron Spall said: “The students were blown away by the city and the energy of the creative and cultural industries that they witnessed. They were able to make contact with people working in the industries in which they will soon be working in.

“The final projects which the students work on will be used as part of the college’s prestigious CREATE Expo which is the creative industries extravaganza held annually here at the college which attracts artists, designers and digital creatives from across Britain and Europe.”
