Fashion fundraiser at West Nottinghamshire College

Top fashion brands will be paraded on the catwalk at West Nottinghamshire College next month to raise funds for the Students’ Union’s second visit to Africa.

The Ghana project is being co-ordinated by the college’s Students’ Union and will see up to 15 students travelling to Ghana in July to the region of Mpraeso where they will spend two weeks working within a local school, taking part in constructing buildings and visiting an orphanage.

The trip is being funded entirely by donations and sponsorships so students and staff are working hard to raise enough funds to ensure the project can continue. This community work started last year and is intended to be an annual project to support the people of the Mpraeso region.

The fundraising fashion show is open to the public and all proceeds from tickets will go towards the Ghana project.  Brands such as Next, Monsoon, Gap and River Island will be modelled on the catwalk and will be available to buy for half price or less.

Helen Franklin is one of the members of staff from the college travelling to Ghana and has organised the fashion show to raise these additional funds.

Helen said: “We’re welcoming members of the public as well as staff and students to the fashion show and we hope that everyone takes advantage of the great bargains on the night.  There will also be a raffle with some great prizes and refreshments. The more money we raise, the more we can put towards equipment for the school and the construction of the buildings.”

“We’ll be helping to teach the children during our two week stay and want to purchase some books and equipment. The trip will be a great experience for West Nottinghamshire College students and will help to shape their future along with enhancing the lives of the people of Mpraseo”

The show takes place on Wednesday 5 May at 7.30pm at the college’s Derby Road campus.  Tickets are £3.50 for full time students and £5 for staff and adults and can be obtained from Helen Franklin on 01623 627191 ext 8166 or Helen.franklin@wnc.ac.uk
